Welcome to the GEOLEP

Laboratory of Engineering and Environmental Geology

GEOLEP is the acronym which stands for the laboratory of geology attached to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. Its specific assignments - entrusted by the "Coordination romande des Sciences de la Terre" - are the teaching of and research in engineering geology.
What is engineering geology? This discipline has been defined by the International Association for Engineering Geology and the environment (IAEG).

Our main fields of activity are:
- natural resources of the underground (groundwater, geothermy, geomaterials...)
- geological hazards (slope instability, seismic microzoning,...)
- groundwater pollution
- rock related problems in tunnelling.
For further information, click on the heading Research.

At the EPFL, teaching is intended for engineering students registered in the Bachelor or Master cycles of the Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences and Engineering programs. See also the heading Teaching.
Click on the link below to find out about the GEOLEP's position within the EPFL (ENAC Faculty, IIC Institute).

If you have any needs lying in our fields of activity, do not hesitate to contact us.
